OUR MISSION

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The following statement of objectives is found on the first page of the NAACP Constitution – the principal objectives of the Association shall be:
  • To ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens
  • To achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States
  • To remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes
  • To seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights
  • To inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination
  • To educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful action to secure the exercise thereof, and to take any other lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP’s Articles of Incorporation and this Constitution.
Founded February 12, 1909, the NAACP is the nation’s foremost, largest, and most widely recognized civil rights organization. Its more than half-million members and supporters throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, leading grassroots campaigns for equal opportunity and conducting voter mobilization.

BOULDER COUNTY

Since our founding in 2017, our membership has increase to nearly 300 members and is steadily growing. Joining a committee is a great way to share your gifts and talent, meet new people, and stand as an ally in our community.

— Civic Engagement

We are committed to raising awareness and power through community forums and events to foster positive political, social, and economic change.

— Education

Work is ongoing with the Boulder Valley School Board, St. Vrain Valley Schools, Colorado State Board of Education, and NAACP State Conference Education Committee  to reject discrimination and promote inclusivity.

— Criminal Justice

Our Committee actively engages with Community Members and Leaders, Students, City Councils, the Boulder County DA’s Office, Law Enforcement to guard against Civil Rights abuses and transgressions.

— Freedom Fund /
Economic Development

The Freedom Fund planning committee is responsible for organizing our branch’s annual fundraising event. While the event varies from year to year, the Freedom Fund’s primary goal is to financially support our local branch and work with community organizations whose mission align with ours.

— Membership

The primary focus of this committee is to recruit, retain, and engage members to strengthen and expand our presence in the community.

— Communication

The Communications team works to promote media content consistent with fundamental NAACP goals which include: the elimination of racial isolation and fear and the furtherance of multiracial and cultural understanding. Outreach to allies and membership throughout Boulder County, as well as the promotion of information and events, are top priorities.

NAACP colorado montana wyoming state conference

The Boulder County Branch is part of the NAACP Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming Tri-State Area Conference.

The NAACP CO MT WY State Conference coordinates the Civil Rights activities of freedom fighters and game changing activists within our three state area in keeping with the NAACP’s mission:

We meet on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Second Baptist Church of Boulder.

Our meetings often begin with a guest speaker on relevant topics, followed by Officer and Committee Chair reports, and time for discussion and community sharing.
