From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. To honor this occasion, we are uplifting Black and queer voices through poetry, art, food, and community.

COMMUNITY ACTION REGARDING OUR SHARED COMMITMENT TO ANTIRACISM AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

In November we held our first community conversation, “The Sum of Us.”
We asked, “Why can’t we have nice things, like a livable wage and adequately funded healthcare and public education?”

In April we held our second community conversation, “The Solidarity Dividend.”
We talked about how we might act together in support of antiracism and social justice.

In parallel, some local faith and ethical communities have held similar conversations.
Some of the participants in those community conversations signed up to participate in the next step, working on a process called, Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT).

The web folder RESOURCES provides informative summaries, podcasts, and study guides.
